The Sanitarium Story
It’s often said that Sanitarium changed Australia’s eating habits. We were the first to introduce breakfast cereals and innovative soy foods and we promoted plant-based eating long before it became popular. Today we’re Australia’s largest health food company, we’re still 100% Australian owned and we’re still driven by the same purpose – to help our communities live well.
In caring for the health and wellbeing of those all over the world, we continue to create delicious and nutritious dairy free milks, breakfast cereals, spreads and vegetarian foods. Healthy food at its best is what we are all about. We keep our combinations simple and our cooking gentle to offer you the best of nature’s goodness and flavours.
Good food should also be good for the environment. That’s why we’re always looking for ways to source local ingredients and make our products locally to reduce our impact on the planet. We’re also mindful when making decisions around technology, energy sources and methods of operation, to ensure that the choices we make are sustainable.
Caring for the community is a core value of Sanitarium and our employees. Whether it’s giving vulnerable Australian children a nutritious start to their day through our longstanding support of Foodbank breakfast clubs, encouraging greater levels of physical activity through sports sponsorships or providing every Australian with access to our free nutrition advisory service, we’re here because we want to make a difference.
Our care for the community extends internationally too. Every year winners of our employee recognition program volunteer with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) to delivering health and wellbeing projects in disadvantaged communities in South-East Asia and the Pacific. Recent examples include improving hygiene and access to fresh drinking water in Vietnam and Cambodia and providing infrastructure and training to give remote villages in Fiji a sustainable source of agriculture and income. In Thailand, Sanitarium staff have supported an initiative called Keep Girls Safe which provides shelter to vulnerable girls and support to stay in school longer and access to employment opportunities.
Everything we do – from the foods we create, to how we engage with our supply chain partners, through to the work we do in the community and how we care for our staff – is guided by our purpose:
‘Changing lives every day through whole person health’
